Unique Resources for Foods & Nutrition
 "
Personal Best" Balancing Fitness & Nutrition CD ROM

Developed by The Nutrition Company
A nutritious diet and regular exercise are two important keys to good health. The purpose of this NEW multimedia is to help students see the connection between the two. In the Nutrition Analyzer, students see a dietary analysis of their food entries for a day, several days, a single meal, or a recipe. Based on the food they have eaten, their activity level, and personal data, students gain a clear picture of how their diets measure up to recommended levels. The program generates up to nine different reports, such as nutrient totals, bar or pie charts, fat breakdown, etc., and describes the strengths and weaknesses of their diet, with suggestions for improvement. The database includes over 8000 foods and 18 nutrient values. It also analyzes cholesterol, calories, fiber, total sugars, and total fat. The Energy Analyzer has two parts.
An interactive tutorial focuses on the effect of exercise on health and weight. Techniques for estimating the calorie content of food and reducing calorie intake are illustrated. The CD-ROM, Windows other part, called the “Exercise Calculator,” shows how the activities you do affect the calories you burn, using a database of over 195 activities. Students enter their activities over a 24-hour period, and the program tells them how many calories they burned.
A Teacher’s Resource Guide, free with purchase, contains worksheets to guide your student in using the information on the CD, along with additional suggested activities.
